ISIS has made non-muslims in this case Christians pay Jizya. What is Jizya and can we find something about the entire issue of why should it be paid in islam.
For that we open Quran sourat al Tauba 29 and read the following.
Fight against such of those who have been given the Scripture as believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, and forbid not that which Allah hath forbidden by His messenger, and follow not the Religion of Truth, until they pay the tribute readily, being brought low in humility and subjugation.
Arabic Text.قَـٰتِلُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَلَا بِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ وَلَا يُحَرِّمُونَ مَا حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ ۥ وَلَا يَدِينُونَ دِينَ ٱلۡحَقِّ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡڪِتَـٰبَ حَتَّىٰ يُعۡطُواْ ٱلۡجِزۡيَةَ عَن يَدٍ۬ وَهُمۡ صَـٰغِرُونَ.
To understand this verse I read al known 4 interpretations Al Tabari, Ibn Katheer, Al Kourtoby, Al Galalien, and further dug in the books of Gala el Dien el Seyouty and Mowataa malek. And each and every book said the exactly the same. And unfortunately what they all said is horrible!
Just to be clear about some facts that ive read. The verse has nothing to do with self-defense or defending Muslim lands or anything like Muslims are trying to make believe in. simply interpreters are saying this verse came to the messenger of Allah because Allah decided it’s time to fight the Jews and the Christian!
Reciting from Ibn katheer.
Allah ordered the prophet to fight anybody who doesn’t believe in him (Mohammed) including those who has been given the book from the Jews and the Christians, that is because they don’t have any faith at all. They follow their own opinions, if they had any faith at all or if they believed in the books they have been given this should have lead them to believe in Mohammed the most honorable prophet of all. And all the previous prophets has prophesized about him.
فقال : ( قاتلوا الذين لا يؤمنون بالله ولا باليوم الآخر ولا يحرمون ما حرم الله ورسوله ولا يدينون دين الحق من الذين أوتوا الكتاب حتى يعطوا الجزية عن يد وهم صاغرون ) فهم في نفس الأمر لما كفروا بمحمد – صلى الله عليه وسلم – لم يبق لهم إيمان صحيح بأحد من الرسل ، ولا بما جاءوا به ، وإنما يتبعون آراءهم وأهواءهم وآباءهم فيما هم فيه ، لا لأنه شرع الله ودينه ؛ لأنهم لو كانوا مؤمنين بما بأيديهم إيمانا صحيحا لقادهم ذلك إلى الإيمان بمحمد ، صلوات الله عليه ، لأن جميع الأنبياء [ الأقدمين ] بشروا به ، وأمروا باتباعه ، فلما جاء وكفروا به – وهو أشرف الرسل – علم أنهم ليسوا
But what really attracted my attention is how all interpreters and Imams explained the second half of this verse.
In these lines from the interpretation of Ibn Katheer we can find the root of all evil when we read what allah meant according the imams Islam!.
We can also find how important Jizyah is and why it should be paid.
This Verse has been used by various muslims to collect Jizya only from Jews and Christians. Or their alikes like Majoos but then the prophet took Jizyah from Majoos Hijr, and that that the stream of Shafiey, and Ahmad, and abu hanifa may Allah rest his soul has said: Jizyah should be collected from every non-Arab and among the Arabs only from Christians and jews
Imam Malik said. Jizyah is to be taken from all Kafirs from all categories; more about this issue will be discussed in a different place and Allah knowns more.
in the word of Allah when he said, until they Pay Jizyah, means that if they didn’t become muslims they must pay Jizya , at hand means obligated and pressured (brought low in humility and subjugation) means they must be humiliated and subjugated when giving it, and since god (allah) said that, we are not supposed to honor or treat the people of the book in a good way. As they are low, servile and wretched, as came in sahih Muslim that Abu Huraria said that the prophet said , do not great the Jews and the Christians and if you see them on the street make them uncomfortable and narrowed.
وقد استدل بهذه الآية الكريمة من يرى أنه لا تؤخذ الجزية إلا من أهل الكتاب ، أو من أشباههم كالمجوس ، لما صح فيهم الحديث أن رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – أخذها من مجوس هجر ، وهذا مذهب الشافعي ، وأحمد – في المشهور عنه – وقال أبو حنيفة – رحمه الله – : بل تؤخذ من جميع الأعاجم ، سواء كانوا من أهل الكتاب أو من المشركين ، ولا تؤخذ من العرب إلا من أهل الكتاب .
وقال الإمام مالك : بل يجوز أن تضرب الجزية على جميع الكفار من كتابي ، ومجوسي ، ووثني ، وغير ذلك ، ولمأخذ هذه المذاهب وذكر أدلتها مكان غير هذا ، والله أعلم .
وقوله : ( حتى يعطوا الجزية ) أي : إن لم يسلموا ، ( عن يد ) أي : عن قهر لهم وغلبة ، ( وهم صاغرون ) أي : ذليلون حقيرون مهانون . فلهذا لا يجوز إعزاز أهل الذمة ولا رفعهم على المسلمين ، بل هم أذلاء صغرة أشقياء ، كما جاء في صحيح مسلم ، عن أبي هريرة – رضي الله عنه – أن النبي – صلى الله عليه وسلم – قال : لا تبدءوا اليهود والنصارى بالسلام ، وإذا لقيتم أحدهم في طريق فاضطروه إلى أضيقه .
ولهذا اشترط عليهم أمير المؤمنين عمر بن الخطاب – رضي الله عنه – تلك الشروط المعروفة في إذلالهم وتصغيرهم وتحقيرهم ، وذلك مما رواه الأئمة الحفاظ
So have we seen now what is Jizyah? It is Tribute, Protection and bully money. The exact same concept of gangs. They all charge people protection money. Muslims try to call it Tax. Well if they named it religious tax it could have been nearer to the truth.
They also say we as Muslims in the west pay taxes, and they compare that to the Jizya. Well fact shows us that the tax in the west is something everybody pays, not a certain group of people because they refused a certain ideology. Taxes in the west are paid to a bank account you don’t have to be humiliated or brought low according to how Quran is describing it when you make the payment.
The tax system Is meant to finance the government that serves the entire population which treats everybody equally, not to help Muslims as superiors to improve their life and the rest as inferiors making their life as hard as possible to convert them to a different ideology.
Imagine if we translated what Islamic apologists are saying into our western system. It will mean that don’t who will not vote for the Republican party (my party) must pay an extra amount of money simply because they don’t agree with me!
